Eugene, Jan. 8.— (Special)—The
stock of the Unlveraity of Ore­
gon freshmen basketball team
took a decided jump upward
when It was announced by Spike
Leslie, coach, that Claire Scallon.
Franklin high school athlete,
turned out In a aunt. Scallon won
a place on the All-American high
school all-star team at the na­
tional elimination tournament at
Chicago last March in which
the Franklin high placed third
in the consolation tourney. For
four years he was All-Portland
high school forward and is con­
sidered the beet basketball play­
er ever developed In the Port­
land high schools. Scallon regis­
tered in pre-law. A teammate at
Franklin, also a former Portland
high all-star, Dave Epps, Is now
turning out for freshmen basket­
ball.
Scallon, Epps, Tep Pope and
Foster, all students of Oregon,
played on the Franklin team
which won the Portland high
school league championship a
couple of years ago. As the sys­
tem taught by Billy Reinhart,
and that taught by Colton Meek.
Franklin conch, and former Ore­
gon student, la almost Identical.
Coach Lealle does not think the
Portland boys will have much
difficulty
¡getting
themselves
adapted to Reinhart’s methods.
The freshmen material is the
