Ashland F ruit Growers, Ashland, Ore., Dear Folks: The Ashland F ruit and Produce association is now in the m idst of a serious problem. W ithin a month, it will have been decided /whether or not it is profitable to curry on the work in the future. The association is your association. Take it away for a year, arid you would feel Sits loss. But it cannot continue to operate at a loss. It is the same as any other business, it m ust have support. Other cooperatives have gone through this same per iod o f construction. One, the Sun Maid Raisin Growers association, worked for more than ten years, in (wilding up an organization, and finally were successful only when they decided that contracts were necessary, and those whose contracts were held by the association market all their produce through the association. The good as well as the not so good produce is handled by the association, and raisin growers are now enjoying prosperity because o f their foresight iu backing their association. The same thing could be done here, and a strong marketing organization "built up which would repay you handsomely for your efforts. •’ Yours truly, A untie Ashland.
