ROOSEVELT BORN 67 YEARS AGO
It is a quite unimportant coincidence that Theodore
2'nosevelt was l»om 67 years ago yesterday.
Men’s birthday’s are of no importance to anyone

than 60 years of critical American history.

Early in I’fe he wrote a History of the Naval War

he became assistant secretary of the America^ navy.
And as President of the United States for nearly eight
years he gave a larger portion of his interest to the de
velopment o f the new navy.
There is a glamor about the sea that i^perhajm far
: ¡»art from its practical interest to us. The navy ought
’ o be of no more serious importance to us than the army,

Two thousand Chinese students storm the place of

We in America cannot imagine a group of Princeton

ome way “ represents” these students. Much as we
may differ on matters, our government does repre
sent us. China has tto possibility of government, yet to

It is gradually evolving toward such a

One is almost coni|>elled to think that in Hadley one
has once ijiore an expression of the academic, rather than
the active point of view. Dr. Hadley does not know, in
-fact, just jwhat the “ iilterferences” with American
thought are. He has given too uriich attention to Ten-
ao—se, with ita'Hropes trial, and too little to the broad'
facts of American public life. The truth is not that we
n e e d n a y more “ governmental interference,” but that
we d o n e e d self restraint. If our education and culture
