HONOR FLAG DAY
One day in the year, June 14, is set aside to honor the
flag—our flag, the flag. Not because it is pretty, not be
cause it is red and white and blue, not because it is the
personal possession of every American, but because of
what it means, what it stands for, what it typifies, what
it prays and what it hopes!
It means liberty; liberty of thought, liberty of con
science, liberty of action within just laws, liberty of wor
ship, liberty of government. It stands for law and order,
protection and security, justice and a square deal, honor
and righteousness. It typifies the ideals of a hundred
ten millions of people, the heritage they have taken'Troin
the hands of the nighty forefathers, the torch of happi
ness in equal oj ortunity lit in 1776 and kept brigtly'
burning ever sint It prays for strength to keep our vis
ion clear; aye, that flag, flying in the breeze, is an Amer
ican’s prayer to God for strength to keep what he lias
won of truth and right, for wisdom to continue upon earth,
those social and political liberties which make this God’s
country. And it hopes! Its proud flutter in the wind, its
beauty overhead, is an outward and visible symbol to
all the world of the inner and spiritual hope of every
thinking American that this nation, under God, may so
act and live that His blessing may continue to rest upon it.
Honor the flag, June 14. Fly it, take off hats to it,
celebrate it. Let there he no hamlet so small in all this
land that a procession is not formed in its honor; let
there be no city so great and busy that its citizens for
get to thrill once more at the sight of Old Glory.
Flag day, June 14—best of all days for all of us to
enter a house of God and on bended knees thank the
Giver of all good that it is our good fortune to live and
love and prosper under such a flag.
ASHLAND’S COOPERATION APPRECIATED
The spirit of co-operation which is being shown by
the people of Ashland should be promptly met half way
or better by Klamath Falls.
The slogan “ Visit Crater Lake via Ashland and Kla
math I alls,’’ has been adopted by the committee working
in Ashland to secure the money for the new tourist hotel,
and continual publicity is being given there for the new
highway and this city.
In one issue of the Ashland Tidings last week the
name “ Klamath Falls” appeared 12 times on one page
of the paper and several times on other pages, and al
ways in a most friendly manner.
Other cities and communities may be willing to work
with us but Ashland is doing it NOW, so the sooner we
get into the swing and help Ashland the sooner we are
helping ourselves.
And it might be well to mention that the Ashland
Tidings gave the Mile High celebration the greatest pub
licity of any paper along the Pacific highway.—Klamath

Ashland, Oregon, is a city where a tourist hotel
should prosper, because it is the southern gateway reach
ed first by thousands of tourists who come from Califor
nia by way of the Pacific highway and it is also the last
Oregon town which clainis tourist interest in departing
for the south. Ashland, by the way, is to have a new
tourist hotel.—Oregonian.
