The California Caravan is the
nam e of this organized expedi
tion of fifty automobiles. The
duty of exploring the road to be
followed and the honor of lead
ing this first transcontinental mo
to r train falls to a C handler Six,
w ith a Pikes Peak m otor, piloted
by Syl MacDowell and W arren
K. Fryer.
They have completed the trip
from Santa Monica, California to
New York City, and are now re
cruiting members of the party to
go west under th e ir guidance.
This novel caravan had its con
ception a t Santa Monica.
The
idea is th a t of Messrs. MacDowell
and F ryer, who are backed by
the Cham ber of Commerce of
Santa Monica.
The caravan pathfinder on its
trip east attracted widespread a t
tention, because of its novel dec
orations. The door3 and side pan-
els of the Chandler five passen-
ger touring car are completely
covered with an artistic array of
enlarged photographs
of Cali
fornia scenes in th eir n atu ral col
ors. W herever the car stopped,
it quickly became the center of
a large group of persons in te r
ested in the pictures of bathing
beauties, resort crowds and beach
es.
Upon the completion of the
w estern trip , the p athiidner
Chandler will have completed 10,-
000 miles.
The eastw ard trip
covered many more miles than the
re tu rn trip will require, a s the
pilots explored many alternative
roads in order to gain authentic
inform ation for the best retu rn
route.
