fe re n t v arieties of pears ever assem ­
bled anyw here in th e U nited States
will be on exhibition a t th e Jose-
jphine county fa ir th ro u g h th e k in d ­
ness of Dr. F. C. R eim er of the
S outhern Oregon experim ent sta­
tion.
This exhibit com prises some 250
v arieties of pears varying from the
sm all Chinese p ear to th e large
com m ercial v a rieties and include
■ specim ens of pears w hich Dr. Rei­
m er has found to 100 per cent re ­
sista n t to blight. It is w ith these
re sista n t pears th a t Dr. R eim er is
ca rry in g on his propagation w ork ,
and grow ing of trees, the root sys- •
tern and tru n k of which is blight re­
sistan t. Dr. R eim er also is c a rry ­
ing on p lan t breed in g experim ents, j
th ro u g h which he hopes to produce j
b light re s is ta n t tre e s of th e p resent i
com m ercial varieties.
