Professor S tru tt of Cambridge, has
discovered a notable quantity of he­
lium in beryl sent to him from New
Hampsliire. A rem arkable fact in this
relation is that the mineral appears to
be absolutely without radio-activity. As
is now generally known, helium is a
f product of radioactive minerals. Pro­
fessor Strutt, surprised by the result
obtained, states th at it seems likely
tliat here is a case of rayless change
of atomic constitution, and it may lead
to further unexpected discoveries.—
