r£*HE coming fall will give a
pretty wide choice in hats for
the fashionable one,- ranging from
the very wide picture hat to the
gmall Persian turban.
In between, there is the poke—
narrow at the back and fanning
out generously at the sides and
front— and the tri-corne.
The large hat is usually edged
with a soft fold of unwired mate
rial, about two inches in width,
the rest of the brim being stiff.
The crown is fitted, and the trim
ming, to be up to the last minute,
snould be of some metalized rib
bon, or feather fancy.
The metal touch on any hat
makes it a hat of the new order.

shown in the photo above. It has
a crown covered with metalized
ostrich, the ostrich cascading
down the back in an effective man
ner. It is the newest sort of hat,
and was therefore chosen to be
worn by Leatrice Joy, Paramount
player, in “ Manslaughter,” Cecil
B. DeMille’s latest photo drama.
It is all in gray and she wears it
with her gray velvet, chinchilla-
trimmed gown.
In the sketch at the upper right,
a Persian turban is shown with
the latest manner of using para
dise or aigrettes. The feathers
are placed downward, forming a
rich and soft tassel that can hard
ly fail to be flattering to the com
plexion. Sometimes they do this
on both sides, but that somehow
lends a fancy dress air to the mode
that is too bizarre to please the
average woman.
The tri-corne shapes are en
chanting. Pardon the adjective,
but it’s really appropriate here,
for these new tri-cornes are repli
cas of the old Venetian things
worn centuries ago; and somehow,
modern as they are, they have an
old-time look about them that is
fascinating. They have falls of
lace gathered around the licad-
size (when they are designed for
evening w ear), but in the daytime
they are seen with no other trim
ming but a small cockade slapped
up against the side of the crown.
Extremely smart for the serge
suit, or the more elaborate tail
leur.

use judgment

our work as
it is that we

qualities of in-
dividual success, but “ intelligent
work” more aptly describes the
processes that bring upbuilding.
While it is ture that those whfi get
on best in the 'world are hard
workers, they do so because they
plan their work so that every
moment will count for the most.
There are those who literally work
themselves to death, and yet ac
complish but little in the way of
advancement.
Let us understand that it is
the part of thrift to do our work
intelligently. It is thrifty to study
each detail connected with our
daily duties and in this way find
out if we are wasting time and
energy.
No matter how menial our tasks,
we should not become mere
automatons. It should be our con
stant endeavor to find means, if
possible, for doing our work more
efficiently. If It were not for the
fact that thoughtful men have
constantly sought to improve
methods of work we would not
have the marvelous gifts of
science and invention that have
become necessities of our daily
lives.
Try to do your work better and
more efficiently.
This is true
thrift. It will bring results in
your development and progress.
