In the first place, with an afternoon dress she is wearing sport shoes and a sport hat! A most impossible combination that is jarring to the «ensibilities. Never make the mis take of mixing sport materials or accessories with afternoon or dressy gowns. This is not just an unreasoning “don’t,” but an ad monition based on the psychology o f dress and therefore a rule for good taste. You see, for instance, a young Woman like the above enter a room in an afternoon frock, a frock that is graceful, soft and •xtremely feminine. Immediately one knows the frock was designed to grace the tea-room, the musi- wile or the reception. As the young woman draws nearer you are able to take in the details of her costume. Horrors! With this dainty visiting frock she wears a hat that was designed for the ten nis coart! And shoes that were?" designed for the golf course! She has her “tempos” mixed, and the result is a jaxsy sartorial compo sition that is in tune neither with the salon, the sport world nor it self. The culprit in the photo above is Bebe Daniels, the Paramount star. She. doesn't mind being caught in this outfit, because she knows yon know she knows bettor. And she did it on purpose anyway to illustrate some “don’t«” in dress. And to complete the horri ble picture she swings an over ornamented, much too long, much too fancy handbag. A beaded bag half its size would have been proper or a taffeta bag studded in steel beads in a conservative de sign. With sport suits one should carry a leather pocketbook or a strictly tailored bag. In the case of the sport frock a bag of the same material as the dress is all right Miss Daniels, who stars with Jack Holt in “North of the Rio Grande,” a Paramount picture, has drawn the long gloves back from the hand. This is permissi ble only when madame is actually engaged in lunching or tea-ing or in some pursuit that requires the use of the hands, but for just standing about or walking or sit ting with the hands unoccupied it is considered very bad taste not to wear the gloves fully. They should then be worn entirely. B esides several bal loons each box con tain s a picture and story book. Som ething the child ren w ill like at • wug S.S® — RANCHES LOST.
