gogue to establish a n o th e r congrega­

Beth Ababa, is still in existence. T he
nam e of th e original congregation was
Beth Shalome.
Lantern for New Year.
As the new year sw eeps round the
world from the one hundred and
eightieth m eridian of longitude, it gets
a bright if silent welcome from the
little village of W eldon, near K etter-
Ing, in N ortham ptonshire. T here on
the tow er of tbe parish church stan d s
a lantern 15 feet high. E rected about
200 y ears ago, the lan te rn w as lighted
on w inter nights to guide trav elers
through the dark forest of Rocking­
ham. T he railw uy and im proved roads
1 have abolished the forest dangers, and
now the lantern is lighted only once a
year, on New Y ear's eve, to welcome In
the New Year.
