EM PLOYES MAY
THE FRIENDLY PATH
By W ALTER I. ROBINSON.
H E sun cannot shine con
stan tly . T here alw ays will
be some rainy days.
A person who would throw
aw ay his um brella or his ra in
coat every tim e th e clouds dis
appeared would be considered a
lunatic.
One m eal will not satisfy our
stom achs th e rem ainder of our
lives. We m ust e a t every so
often if we wish to live and
avoid hunger.
No one would
th ink of eatin g everything he
had if he didn’t expect to get a n
o th er m eal w ithin a reasonable
time.
These assertio n s m ay seem
hut prim ary lessons on the im
portance of vision. Yet m any of
m atu re age could study them
with benefit. E xperience already
has ta u g h t qu ite a few th a t look
ing ahead Is essen tial to happi
ness and com fort.
W ages and incom es during the
last few y ears have been higher
than ever before. L uxury buy
ing and e x trav ag an ce in p leas
ure seeking have gone along to
gether. M any thought they had
struck a “well of gold” th a t
never would go dry.
B ut the inevitable has h ap
pened. Those who dem anded ex
o rb ita n t profits and .th o se who
forced high w ages and who, in
both instances, spent as fast as
they received, a re beginning to
see the folly of th e ir ways. In
m any cases th e fru it has an ex
trem ely b itte r taste.
A little vision in th e beginning
would have prevented cries of
distress. Some may find it too
bite io benefit from th eir lesson
since they a re sliding down the
precipice. These will have many
dilliculties in clim bing hack over
the jagged rocks.
Few th ere a re who cannot
stiii m ake a s ta r t in the road of
th rift and fairn ess which is the
sure way to prep are if “rainy
days” should come.
