this year, was taken here when an
agreem ent was reached between the
Missouri Pacific railroad and Pueblo
city and county officials whereby the
railroad company will tu rn over to
the city a strip of land in its local
yards which will be utilized in wid
ening the channel of the A rkansas
river.

Electric Co.
has been moved to
Provost Bros.
Where all business will be transacted and gas bill will
be paid.
Alt. Piovosi lias been appointed agent for the company,
sas broke through on the night of
June 3, resulting in the w orst flood
the city has ever known, causing a
property loss of upwards of $15,-
000,000 and taking a death toll of
approxim ately 200.
The land extends from a point on
the south bank of the A rkansas riv
er to the eastern lim its of the rail
road yards. Engineering e . ^ r t s are
planning, with the acquisition of this
land, to cut a channel at the egress
of the A rkansas river from the city
th a t will be seventy feet wider than
it was before the June floods, and
about 100 feet wider than the chan
nel of the river as it passes through
the central section of Pueblo.
Below the new channel present
obstructions will be removed, and
dredging will s ta rt at once th a t will
put the riv er’s course n ear n atu ral
bluffs on its north bank. The Mis
souri Pacific railroad already has
constructed a heavy “ slag” em bank
m ent to protect its tra c k s,a lo n g the
south bank of the river, and a levee
sufficiently strong to protect against
raging to rren ts will be built.
W ork of reconstruction through
out the city has progressed -rapidly
since the devastation of last summer.
Reclaimed Lands Im press—
J. W. Dressier, M edford’s big real
estate dealer, returned yesterday
from K lam ath Falls, where he went
with E. T. Staples to investigate the
reclaimed swamp lands being sold
by L. Jacobs through Jackson coun
ty land agents. To say th a t the
Medford man was» favorably im
pressed w ould be putting it mildy.
He was amazed a t the richness of the
soil, the ease with which it could be
worked and the unlim ited supp'^V'
of practically free w ater, as well as
the nearness to the railroad, a com
bination of advantages which make
the present price of $120 an acre
look small indeed. Mr. Dressier is
considered one of the best judges of
ag ricu ltu ral lands in Southern Ore
gon, and his judgm ent will go a long
ways with his Medford clients. He
was assured by J. W. Siemens, presi
dent of the F irst State and Savings
'bank of K lam ath Falls, th a t lands
on the Jacobs tra c t would likely ad
vance in price to $500 per acre, judg
ing by values elsewhere. Mr. Sie
mens is a long-time resident of K la
m ath county and one of the most
successful.
When his bank wate
closed as a result of malicious rum
ors, it opened again within sixty
days, with an arm y of depositors
clam oring to leave th eir money with
Mr. Siemens, showing th eir confi
dence in him.
