NEW SAFETY GATE FOR RAILROAD
CROSSINGS DECLARED FOOL PROOF

XV
Officials of th e Chicago elevated railw ay lines have tested a new safety
gate fo r railroad crossings which is said to be “fool-proof” ag ain st the careless
autom obile driv er who now and then drives through the old-fashioned wooden
gate and w akes up With a harp. T he new gate will not allow an autom obile
to pass If a c ar runs into it the gate gives several feet and then bounces
the c ar back like a rubber ball.
