The Tidings has received no
tice from the United Press that
on account of the recent raise in
scale by the Telegraphers’ Union
telegraph tolls on our daily report
will be materially
increased
after
July
1st.
Consider
ing the uncertainty of securing
news print at an exhoritant price,
the heavy raise in telegraph tolls
and the proposed raise in the
printers’ scale, looks like the aver
age little country daily will have
to suspend publication until times
i become normal.

SPEAKER JULY 4TH
Robert Louis Stevenson’s pow-
erful story, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde,” has been translated to the
screen with John Barrymore in
the leading role and will be
shown at the Vining theater for
three days commencing today.
This is declared to be one of the
most remarkable pictures ever
filmed, and the performance of
Mr. Barrymore, it is claimed, is
a worthy companion to that of
Rihcard Mansfield, who appeared
in the same part in the stage ver
sion of the story.
The plot, as is well known, has
as its central figure a young Lon
don physician, Dr. Jekyll, whose
tenderheartedness is exceeded
only by his all-absorbing interest
in his chosen profession and his
scientific investigations. He is in
love with an innocent, beautiful
girl, Millicent Carew. Her fath
er, Sir George Carew, is a famous
man about town. Dr. Jekyll is
persuaded by Sir George to ac
company him to a low music hall.
From this experience, Jekyll is
led to experiment with a liquid
that will separate the good and
evil in a man into two distinct
bodies. He evolves such a drug,
administers it to himself and be-
comes not only Jekyll, the doctor
philanthropist, but also Hyde, a
misshapen, evil brute. Gradual

Number 100,000 Leaves Factory
On February 21st, at 10:45
o'clock, Fordson Tractor number
100,000 left the assembly line in
the Fordson plant at Dearborn,
Mich., slightly less than two and
one-half years after number one
was completed. And here again
Henry Ford has set a new high
record in the manufacture of farm
tractors via the quantity produc
tion route.
Although the Ford interests are
very recent entrants in the ranks
of the tractor manufacturers, yet
Henry Ford really built a tractor
—of the steam type—before he
started work on his first gas car.
With acknowledgments to K. C- B.
And incidentally that tractor and
the first car are still in very good
running condition, and Mr.' Ford
occasionally demonstrates both to
visitors to his farm in Dearborn.
Some fifteen years ago Mr. Foni
began work on what has come to
be the Fordson. This tractor was
really a Ford car equipped with
special wheels and included, of
course, some mechanical changes.
By 1908 he had a workable trac
tor; it plowed, harrowed, and did
much other work on the farm,
Then ensued nine more years of
experimental work before the first
tractor was put on the market.
