These pictures recently were turned over by the army to the 8mlthaonlan Institute where they will be preserved. The artist corpa.waa composed ot Cap tnlns W. K. Aylward, W. J. Duncan, Harvey Dunn, George Harding, Wal lace Morgan, Ernest Pelxotto, An dre Smith and Harry Townsend, all hnen whose names were known to the public. Forty of the best of these pic tures, loaned by the war depart ment to the American Legion Weekly, will be reproduced from time to time In that periodical. The first appeared In the Issue of Sep tember 6, and were painted by Har vey Dunn. Copies of the American Legion Weekly containing the re productions of these pictures may be aeen in the Commercial club, and those who weren't there may see war as It was In these paintings which are the result of brush and palate piled on actual fields of fire. Such a man would see the splen did opportunity now making goo-goo eyea at him from the atreeta ot Ash land. One hundred percent ot the visitors to Ashland like the city and Its en vironments but we can only accom modate a few of them. New comers, attracted by the true atorles of our climate and waters and beauty are seeking accommodations to sojourn. Not all wlBh to buy or t...iM immetiatalv. We have no ay u vs -- - apartmenta or modern furnished houses to otter them. Nor are the hotel and rooming ac commodations adequate. We have built up the out door at tractive features. Our schools, our parks and our springs are attracting the people, but It looka like many will pass on for want of accommo dations. It Is remarkable that owners ot such buildings as the Austin hotel and the business block opposite can not stir up courage enough to grow with the city. A completion ot the unused space In the Austin, a remodeling ot the upper floor ot such a building as the Vsupel store building Into modern apartments would readily bring handsome returns and serve to hold the visitors pouring in. It would serve to stimulate some one who can see from the level the overtures of Miss Golden Opportunity. An apartment bouse Is needed In Ashland. It must come. He who builda now will certainly be a ben efactor and receive large returns. Who haa the courage? We will till the building. solutely In need ot that generous and self-sacrificing spirit which haa stood firmly by It on many tryln occas ions, and never more so than In the terrible war Just concluded, wblch brought so much suffering and de vastation to the world at large.
