on public utilities are reduced nearly
50 per cent under the Interpretation

the tax applies only to purely intra
state business and that any income of
the utilities from interstate business
having an origin In Oregon cannot be
taxed.
Governor Pierce will be asked to
call a special session of the Oregon
legislature to further the Roosevelt
highway. The movement was started
at a meeting of the North nepd cham
her of commerce, when a resolution
was adopted to that effect. Other
bodies along the route of the Roose
velt highway will he asked to join in
the resolution asking the governor fcr
the session.
The public service commission has
requested the Interstate commerce
commission to suspend tariffs already
filed prnpoatng to increase interstate
freight rates on fresh fruit and vege
table shipments approximately 25 per
cent. The proposed new rates would
apply particularly to the statea of
Oregon. Washington and California.
