One of the best things In the way
of improvement that has been done
for the school Is the resurfacing of
the blackboards. This was done the
week prior to the opening of school.
That slick shfny appearance that for
merly blinded the eyes iH all gone
and writing on the boards is visible
from any part of the room.
The School iioard is having some
needed repairs done on the heating
plant In the basement. Radiators
that formerly were placed on the ceil
ing are now being set on the floor.
This will make the rooms more com
fortable during the winter season.
Two new students enrolled With
the Freshman class this week, mak
ing a total of 1! In this class. The
newly enrolled are Alex Ayers and
Eden Larsen.
The county superintendent has
! given out the information that books
! for IJojirdnian school library-are now
; in her office She also states that if
any patron of the district will call
for them while in Heppner the cost
of transportat ion may be saved.
Miss Dorothy Iloardriian, class of
1923, left on Sunday's local for Sa
lem, where she will enter Willam
ette university. She was joined by
Doris Healy in Portland, the latter
going via Salem to Monmouth to en
ter the state normal. These girls
are classmates of our high school
and we wish them success In their
new found home.
Miss Hlxon primary teacher, was
a business visitor in Portland dur
ing the week-end, returning Sunday
night.
Editor Mark A. Cleveland, of the
Honrdman Mirror, paid a brief visit
to the school building last Tuesday.
John J. Carroll, who taught man
ual training a part of last year, writes
from Fallon, Nev., as follows:
"Well, here I am way down In
Nevada, where the thermometer

"This is a large town with a pop
ulation of 18,000, and it Is modern

school has 275 Students and (he
grades 590. There are 15 buses,

manual training. The shop is well
quipped with tools, power saws and
other machinery. In the cooking
room all the girls have a separate
electric plate for cooking. There is
also a large electric range for bak
ing and roasting.

Mrs. Chas. Goodwin was hostess
to a pleasant afternoon affair last
Friday to a number of the Boardman
women for her sister, Mrs. Follette,
who has been 'a visitor here. The
afternoon was spent over bits of
needlework and visiting, nad later
in the afternoon delicious punch and
cake was served by the hostess, as
sisted by Mrs. Warner and Mrs. Klits.
Those who enjoyed the affair were
Mesdames Ballenger. Gorham, Blay
den, Klitz, Herelm, Macombor, Davis,
Warren, Gibbons, P. Cramer, Bands,
KlftgeS, Warner in addition to the
honor guest and hostess.

Dalles Stopped overnight at the Lee
Mead home on Wednesday on their
way to Pendleton to attend the

Henry Klages and Fred returned
Sunday from (heir work near Yaki
ma and will leave next week for
Wenatchee, Wash., where they will
lelp in the apple harvest.
Mrs. C. D; Follette and Catherine
left Tuesday on No. 1 for California,
v here they will visit Mrs. Follette's J
sister, Mrs. John Heck, before re
luming east to their Minnesota
home.
Pr. Miller of Portland, who was
here about a year ago, was In 1'oard
tnu on Tuesday. He is an eye, ear,
nose and throat specialist. He re
moved tonsils and adenoids for Ted
Albright, Lillian Brice and Joe Gor
ger. Mr. nnd Mrs. Flmer Marty came
from Portlnnd Thursday and wil
maks their home In this community.
Mr. Marty Is Interested in Ihe cheese
factory here and his many friends
welcome him and his bride to our
midst.
