Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Howell enter tained friends from Hay Creek this week. Jack Gorham went to Pendleton Wednesday to consult an eye specialist. Ralph Davis drove to Hermlston Wednesday, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Price. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Warren, Miss Wlnfleld and Mrs. Smith left Tues day for Portland. The BJaydens and Andersons mot ored to Clatskanio to visit the Paynes, leaving Thursday and re turning Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Healey and Doris returned last week from a few day's visit In Portland. Doris has has been there for a month or so. Mr. and Mrs. Ballenger left Wed nesday for Wasco and from there to Seaside where Mrs. Ballenger will spend the balance of the summer. Mrs. C. D. Follette and daughter, Catherine, of Fairmont, Minn., ar rived Saturday for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Warner. Her husband will come later. The ladies aid met Wednesday at the church. An ice cream; social was planned to raise funds for the treusury which is rather badly de pleted at present. Mr and Mrs. Anderson and three children left the fore part of the week for their home in New Ply mouth, Idaho, after a visit with the Blayden and Gorham families. Mrs. Jack Uorham and daughter, Janet, returned with them for a short visit. I own several choice irrigated tracts in Boardman district. Will sell on terms, on crop payment or will rent. Geo. C. Jlnl3-4t Nate Macomber and wife made a short trip to Boardman Saturday, driving down in a Ford and return ing the same evening to Pilot Rock, where they are spending the summer. G. L. Moss, the new barber of Umatilla, has opened a shop in Boardman and will be on hand every Tuesday and Friday to attend to your tonsorial needs. The shop is in the rear of the pool room. A traveling vaudeville show stop ped here Wednesday and gave a very creditable performance in the school house and furnished music fort a dance after the show. Part of the proceeds were given to the ceme tery association. Alton Klitz and Vaughnan Keyes left last week for Penawawa, Wash., to work in the harvest fields. The two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ferman of the east arrived Tuesday from Portland for a visit with home folks. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lamley of Knappton, Wash., came Sunday to spend a month. They plan to build a porch on their house and add a number of other improvements. Mr. Warner took Mr. and Mrs. Lamley over to Grandview, Wash., where the Lamleys visited a sister of the for mer for a few days. IRRIGON NEWS ITEMS Mrs. L. B. Kicker, son, Roy and daughters, were Irrigon visitors from Milton Monday. Son Roy is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Rieks for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Wolf and fam ily motored to Portland Saturday, returning Tuesday afternoon. They took in the city as guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Wagner. This is some melon growing weath er and the crop is looking pretty good but there will not be much before the first of August. Some scattering first settings may be on by the 22nd but there Is only a few of them. " People came one hundred and ten miles for apricots Sunday. As many as seven automobiles were at the ranch of N. Seaman and Son at one time. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Saling returned Wednesday evening from a pleasant motor trip up in the Canadian rock ies. They were at Banff and Lake Louise. A number of prominent Irrigon people made business trips to Hepp ner the first of the week. One of the greatest calamities to a poor man is to have some auto mobile salesman learn his telephone. Surely the editor must have been away on a jaunt last week, judging by the misprints in the Mirror. Did you notice that Mrs. Jack Gorham entertained a "stag party" for her sister and cousin? Needless to state it was the wives who were present and Instead of a "beautiful dinner at the church it was a "bountiful" dinner. Attebury and Delbert Car penter, two Boardman boys, had a narrow escape from a serious ac cident last Sunday when their Ford turned over a few miles north of lone. Chas. Atterbury driving lost control of the wheel, the car climb ing a steep cliff, then rolled back to the road bed. The boys were driving about twenty miles an hour. The slow rate of speed and the top of the car saving them from possible injury. Both boys are graduates of the Boardman class of '23. Drainage in experimental fields at O. A. C. has doubled the crop yield?. Before dranage on some lands the yield wan so small that profit was uncertain.
