The sequel to a strange sea story de veloped yesterday. A few days ago the schooner Rio Ray. bound from San Fran cisco to Sluslaw. and which lay off that bar twenty days unable to get Into har h,ir t.r!iitut of rough weather, came into this port in distress, short of proviMon. The captain reported that In a i;ale a few days before he had spoken a canoe loaded with Indians. They could not speak English but made known that they were hungry. Out of his own poor stores he gave them water and crackers. They refused all Invitations to come aboard the schooner, though It seemed every mo ment their frail craft would be swamped In the storm. They had one seal in the canoe. What they could do on the open ocean In such weather, or where they came from was a mystery. It now tran spires that the stalwart buck Indtans and two or three squaws who have been In the city for a day or two are off the British sealing schooner Hatslc. which arrived here in distress, and constitute her fishing crew, and are only a few of hundreds of Indians on fifty or more sealers now lining this const. The men are very daring and the crew seen by the Rio Ray drifted many miles from their vessel In a storm but reached it attain In safety after a perilous experience.
