Quite an argument occurred yesterday as to the proper name of the trout caurht In the creeks near here. It was conten,' ed that they are not mountain trout, hs they all have scales. Only salt water flsh are thus provided. But the question arose as to how the flsh managed to gvt above Young's river falls. It Is not reasonable to suppose that an eight Inch trout couH shoe a distance of 50 feet. If they are salt water fish they must have been planted above the falls. The handicaps of the ladles In their match with "the gentlemen Thursday night have been fixed. Each lady Is al lowed 2 pins In the four games. The total number of pins made by the gen tlemen was compared with the same la dies' total and the handicaps arranged accordingly. With five and a half pins a game. It is probable the ladles will win. All the contestants are practicing. and some excellent scores may be looked for. Mr. A. B. Hammond arrived In the city yesterday, accompanied by Mr. George B. Dodweil. of Hongkong, senior member of the lance steamshln company of Dodweil, Carblll & Co. The party went to Flavel, where the wnterfront was carefully examined. The Methodist church was crowded last nlcht when the performance of the Nashvlll, Students began. The enter tainment was one of the best ever given in the city. Each one of the seven ladles ami gentlemen Is possessed of an ex cellent voice, and e-ry numlier was vo ciferously applauded. The bass, contralto and soprano have wonderful voices. In the circuit court yesterday, In the divorce case of Mary D. Haaven vs. Ives A. Haaven, default was allowed and the cause referred to C. E. Runyon to take testimony. In the case of James Garvin, charged with adultery, a motion to withdraw the Indictment and resubmit to the grand Jury was allowed. In the case of M. J. Badollet vs. W. G. Howell, a motion was made to at aside the suit. The grand Jury returned three true bills, two rxdng against John Menthau sen and S.
