Alter discus sion, it was decided to accept the Tongue Point proposition, and to appoint a com mittee of five, Mr. Will Sherman a chair man, to raise the necessary funds and build the road. A careful estimate was made of the protsiblo amount of sub scriptions that would he made to the fund, and It was found that the avenge amount would be about $.". ShcrmAil A Thing headed the list fr the i'rffiit lllcycle Co. The rood will to u lot wide, built of planks dressed on one tdo. laid lengthwls,-. A committee on permanent orK!inlX4itlon was also urrar(5 l for .the member to be appointed later. It cannot le used I) teams or cuttle, loiter on a coinbtnutlon may be made with the county authentic or the fanners to widen the road for tia use of teams. From present Indications. It would xs'm that tho mayor has made up hli mind to veto the ordinance recently piss ed In relation to Commercial street ten sion. No positive Information could le obtalmsl yestenlay In regard to the may or's Intentions, but from talk with some of the business men und memlwr of the council, a veto la probal"e. It Is said that there Is a ts'tter way to accomplish the desired end thun the plans now under consideration by the council, ami It P prolmble that steps will he tak'-n In that direction at the meeting Prlday night. It is stati d that it would be simply folly to draw warrant for damages to property-holders when there Is no fund from which to p. iv th. warrants, un-i no pro vision for meeting IntcrcM on :he same. To expect to simultaneously collect the warrants for the Isnehis asse.,l, and make the one set of warrants offset me other, leaving a bulanee for the construc tion of the street. Is a very uncertain proposition, since it may take many months to collet the amounts due the city, and In the meantime the el;, would be In the position of holding the ,e. with no means of providing anything to put In It. It Is also hinted that there l already a street I.Ud out legally Just where the proposed street Is to run, and all that It Is necessary to do Is to pu!lih the regular notice for Its Improvement What Is troubling the wide-awake busi ness men of the town is, why all of tnesc illtlieultles were not canvassed many months ago, so that the city might be In position to second the efforts of Mr. Hammond to opon business in Astoria. The railroad now Is rapidly approaching the time win n It will be running through trains, ami a passenger ami f night sta tion will be one of tho necessities with the public doing business with the road ASHI'INKK'S NOTICK.
