to Report Sew Siyar Schedule.
Special to the Astortan.
Washington, June 8. The republican
Mr. Aldrich, who is generally credited
with the authorship of the finance eom-
; ralt,ee Provisions, had been xpocted to
stand out stiffly for tne amendments.
but he did not do so. He sold that bla
interest in the revision as a whole was
superior to his Interest In any particular
schedule though the committee rates
were equitable In the line of republican
policy, but he was willing to subordi
nate his judgment to the majority. The
announcement was received with djmon-
stratlons of approval. Speech's were
made by almost ail the senators present.
Hoar made a vigorous plea for unity of
action, but said the su:rnr schedule
should be definitely agreed upon at this
time and put In shape so as to terminate
the unfriendly criticism that had been
aroused.
Senator Frye asked the caucus to con
sider the necessity of profiting the Ha
waiian reciprocity treaty, and made a
sr"Och In that behalf. This occurred
early in the proceedings ind ihe Ila
! w.iiian question was apparently lost sight
i of In the subsequent proceedings over
the main features of the suar schedrle.
The senators were generally of the opin
ion that with the Hawaiian question
undisposed of the sugar question was
' not finally settled, but there was no
.
agreement tor a future caucus.
