A congregational meeting was held In the Presbyterian church last even ing to take into consideration the con struction of a new church building. Rev. Mr. Marcotte, w ho acted as chair man, stated the object of the me:Ing and the favorable condition which swmed to warrant early commence ment of the work. A, motion was made and unanimously carried that the work be commenced without unnecessary de lay If the way be clear. A discission ensued as to the amount to be ex panded. Opinions expressed favored from JS.000 to $10,000. A committee, cn sLiting of Messrs. H. C. Thompson. O. Wlngate, Duncan Stuart and Mrs. -V. Kinney was appointed to secure &ub soriptitnis Elder E. C. Holden offered the- fol lowing resolutions, which were adopted hy a rising vote: Whereas, The late Captain Geo. Fla vel by will bequeathed to the First Prosbyterlai church of Astoria, Ore gon, the sum of J4.000 toward the build ing; fund for the construction of a new and enlarged church building for said Klivt Presbyterian church of As toria; and Whereas, The heirs to the estate or said Captain Geo. Flavel. deceased. have now supplemented the generous and liberal legacy of the husband ant father by the donation to said ohjrcn of a deed to two valuable and eligible lots In the oi;y of Astoria, whereon to construct said contemplated new oltuivh building; therefore, be it ' Resolved. That w, the pastor, eliers, members and adherents of said first Presbyterian church of Astoria In con gregation assembled, this 19th day of May, A.
