The biennial report of the stage trees Brer of Oregon has just 'been issued, showing many Interesting figures well deserving of the study of every tax payer In the state. For the term end ing December 31, lSSSthe total receipts, inciumng uie balances on hand, as per last report, were 12,335,563.83. The to tal diMOurserrKmts during the same pe riod were J1.9S5.523. 43, leavins: a balance in the treasury of 3S,034.42. This certainly cannot be called a bad show log for a dull seaon. It Is the exeprlence of history that wars do ma pay. whether they are be tween nations, railroads or baseball managers. Which Cured Him .uter Everything Else Failed. There are a great many of the un fortunate ones in this world, greater In number than those who are blessed with good diegstion. To some people the greatest misfortune is not to be able to eat everything set before them. I suffered for years with Dyspepsia, and everything I ate disagreed with me. I was induced to try Simmons Liver Regulator and waa cured. I now eat everything." M. Bright, Madison Parish, Lav The unanimous election yesterday of Mr. J. E. Higgins as aohool director to succeed himself for the ensuing five years is not only a deserved compli ment to that gentleman, but .cannot fall to be a source of satisfaction to the people ithat the maintenance of (be school board has been placed upon a high plane of pure service, from which has been eliminated all trlck 4rry and ring methods. If there is any iepartment of the government demand ing, tfie highest principles, It is the de partment of public schools. . The kjplit In the populist party be tween the Watson and Butler factions ito nit the only fracture which is in It, Memory is a little treacherous now and then, and causes one to forget some things worth remembering, unless one has an experience like that which came to Mr. D. E. East, Moffatt's Creek, Va., who says: "I had been suffering for years with a torpid liver and found no relief until I took Sim mons Liver Regulator, when I was en tirely relieved of my troubles. I never Intfiul -ntr u-f-rhoitt Kimmskrw I Jvpr hut this is wide and extended enouph I regulator." to show that the party is in a shaky I ondltlon. ProbaOly the populist H go- , v,,,lin(f w tmmigra- ing the way of the numerous other ., biI1 .na.t(). Murphy was true to irut-s ru n appeal to a class. .None of them ever had any real vitality. There is no reason for the patriots to be disrouraged. There are still 91.- 610 governmen offices which are not protected by the civM service rules. It Is surprising what a "wee bit of a thing" can accomplish. Sick headache, constipation, dyspepsia, sour stomach, dizziness, are quickly banished by De Witt's Little Early Risers. Small pill. Safe pill. Best pill. Chas. Rogers. Senator Teller seems inclined to the opinion that an arbitration treaty would be in the nature of an invita tion to scare up something to arbitrate. The populiat party has already lasted lunger than anybody four or five years ago expected. It did one) good thing it helped to divert the people of the 8oirth from war isHUes and prejudices, and thui4 prepared the way for a break In the partlan solidity of that region. This !as the only beneficent eervlce which the populists ever rendered to thrs'country. the traditions of the New York democ racy, whose main prop ajid stay through its hietory has been the Illit erate ali?n. THE JOOD ROADS MOVEMENT. There are good roads bills bef.re the legislatures in twelve different spates, and In all the bills the creation of a state highway comjniaslon is provided for. This shown that the continued discusKion of betttr roads is leading to an era of action. Some of the states haw made connWerable pr igr-s In ai:ilyin;r definite legislation to the per manent betterment of roads, and their experience will be of value to th- com munities that have not yet decld-d on the form of law desired. New Joigey is as far advanced as any state in the sotual work of road contructlon. The law there places one-third of the cost on. the state, one-tenth on the abutting land-owners, and the remainder on the county. L'nder the provisions no lens than 300 imiltn of improved road have been built or contracted for 1n New Jersey, auid the fetate has paid for Its third the sum of $166,595. The total expenditure for six years has been n.im.m. The addition, in eo ahort a period, at 3iW miles to the first-class, roads of single state Is nn evidence that the work can te made to move rapidly and economically when once Intelli gently begun. Behind the movement In New Jersey has been a league of good roads associations, who adopted this for their motto: "Good roads decrease Chlcora, Pa, "Herald:" Richard Vensel reports One Minute Cough Cure the greatest success in medical science. He told us that It cured his whole family of terrible coughs and colds, af ter all other so-called cures had failed entirely. Mr. Vensel said It assisted his children through a very bad siege of measles. One Minute Cough Cure makes expectoration very easy and rapid. Chas. Rogers, Druggist. Tainful diseases are bad enough, but when a man Is slowly wasting away with nervous weakness, the mental forebodings are ten times worse than the most severe pain. There Is no let up to the mental suffering day or night. Sleep is almost impossible, and under such a strain men are scarcely respon sible fus' what they do. For years the writer rolled and tossed on the troubled sea of sexual weakness until It was a question whether he had not better take a dose of poison and thus end all his troubles. But providential Inspira tion came to his aid in the shape of a combination of medicines that not only completely restored the general health, but enlarged his weak, emaciated parts to natural slxe and vigor, and he now declares that any man who will take the trouble to send his name and ad dress may have the method of this won derful treatment free. Now when I say free I mean absolutely without cost. because I want every weakened man to get the benefit of my experience. I am not a philanthropist, nor do I pose as an enthusiast, but there are thousands of men suffering the mental j tortures of weakened manhood who j would be cured at ones could they but get such a remedy as the one that cured me. Do not try to study out how I can afford to pay the few postage stamps necessary to mall the Informa tion, but send for It, and learn that there are a few things on earth that al though they cost nothing to get they are worth a fortune to some men and mean a lifetime of happiness to moat of us. Write to Thomas Slater, Box 388, Kalamazoo, Mich, and the Information will be mailed In a plain, sealed en velope. VESSELS ON THE WAV TO OREGON.
