The government's expenditures were less by U.044.4jO during December than tts receipts. A man can forgive woman not lov ing him. provided she doesn't love any other man. Lent Is being generally observed In the city, and almost everyone is mak ing some sort of self-denial. It is good practice, if only to demontrate that a person can control his habits, even through they be insignificant ones. EFFECTS OF PROTECTION FREE TRADE. AND There are a groat many of the un fortunate ones in this world, greater in number .than those who are blessed with good dlegstlon. To some people the greatest misfortune is not to be able to eat everything set before them. "I suffered for years with Dyspepsia, and everything I ate disagreed with 1 me. Is there anything more forlorn than to be burdened with a mackintosh when It dears off? In the reports of Commerce and Nav igation for November, 1S, on page S19. isifound a table giving 'the exports and imports of merchandise from to 1897 inclusive. An examination of this report shows that under protection the exports of this country have nearly always been greater! than the imports, while during periods of low tariff, the imports are nearly always greater than the exports. During the seven years 'from .1835 to 1S42, under a low tariff, the excew of sur exports was 113,7Sa,467. while dur ing the four years from 1S42 to IMS un der proectlon, the excess of our exports over Imports was I47,I3,375. Ribbon fully seven and eight inches in width is often used to tie the fash ionable Ibrfdal (bouquet. Torturing, Iching, scaly skin erup tions, burns and scalds are soothed at once and promptly healed by De Witt's Witch Hazel Salve, the best known cure for piles. Chas Rogers. A sable coat trimmed with ermine represents a great deal of money, but It isn't pretty after all. Memory is a little treacherous now and then, and causes one to forget some things worth remembering, unless one has an experience like that whirh c-ime to Mr. D. E. East, Moffatt's Painful diseases are bad enough, but when a man Is slowly wasting away with nervous weakness, the mental forebodings are ten times worse than the most severe pain. There Is no let up to the mental suffering day or night. Sleep is almost Impossible, and under such a strain men are scarcely respon sible for what they do. For years the writer rolled and tossed on the troubled sea of sexual weakness until It was a question whether he had not better take a dose of poison and thus end all his troubles. But providential Inspira tion came to his aid In the shape of a combination of medicines that not only completely restored the general health, but enlarged his weak, emaciated parts to natural size and vigor, and he now declares that any man who will take the trouble to send his name and ad dress may have the method of this won derful treatment free. Now when I say ftee I mean absolutely without cost, because I want every weakened man to get the benefit of my experience. I am not a philanthropist, nor do I poe as an enthusiast, but there are thousands of men suffering the mental 1 tortures of weakened manhood who would be cured at once could they but get such a remedy as the one that cured me. Do not try to study out how I can afford to pay the few postage stamps necessary to mall the Informa tion, but send for It, and learn that there are a few things on earth that al though they cost nothing to get they are worth a fortune to some men and mean a lifetime of happiness to most of us. Write to Thomas Slater, Box 38, Kalamazoo, Mich., and the Information will be mailed In a plain, sealed en velope.
