TRIED TO SAVE A WOMAN. San Francisco. January 29 William Rubles was today sentenced by Judge Wallace to fourteen years In San Qu.-n tin for perjury- The crime of Kohlc was committed under unusual clrrum stances. In that his perjury was com mltted to save another from the pen Itentlary. Some monoha ago a woman named Aggie Abbott, was convicted of grand larceny for stealing a gold watch from the pockt of John Ellis, a countryman. At that time J lot) lee was a prisoner In the county Jail, charged erhh vagrancy. To save the Abbott woman, Robles made an affidavit In which he swore that he stole Ellis' watch and that the woman, then under oonvktlon. was Innocent. The attor ney for the woman presented Robles' affidavit to Judge Bahrs In support of a motion for a new trial. Surprised at the contents of the affidavit. Judge Bahrs deokled upon an investigation, Whkih resulted In his denial 4 the mo tion and sentenced the woman to a term in the penitentiary.
