Whltelaw, th wrecker, now owns the stranded collier San Benito. Ha boutrht the wrecked vessel and Its cargo at auction yesterday at the Mer chants' Exchange, and the Teasel that two weeks ago was valued at SM0.000 was sold for $120. Th vessel's cargo of nearly 3000 t-ins of coal was sold to the wrecker as it lay In tha hull for 110. ' Captain Whltdaw waa the only bidder. He hopes to reimburse himself by saving some of the machinery of th stranded collier, and that can only be done should th weather remain fine and the sea calm long enough for hla wrecking vessel to get alongside and remove the machinery before the storm breaks up the hull, As for the cargo of coal, Captain Whltelaw said he only purchased It out of pity for the auc tioneer, who was making unusually stirring efforts to sell a aubmerged com modify that no ore wanted to buy. The coal can never be taken out of the Ban Benito's hull, unless at a great er exenKe and risk than It could be removed from the mine. Han Francisco Examiner.
