Sunday Ed. Blakesley and Frank Boyd arrived at Seaside, having made the round trip from Astoria through the I'pper Nehalem via Saddle moun tain and the old railroad grade to Junction City, and thence Into Seaside. Mr. G. W. Lounsberry and family spent Sunday at Gearhart Park. Dur ing the day Mr. Lounsberry spend the time in shooting ducks or rather, snipe on the seashore. He bagged a large number, which were baked In a pot pie, Sunday afternoon the steamers Pot ter and Ocean Wave made the last trips .of the season from the north beaches. The summer season has prac tically closed, only a few people re maining either at the north or south beaches. School Clerk Ferguson was busy yes terday, it being the opening day of the fall term, In making transfers from one school to another, and arranging classes. A number of rooms were very much crowded, but will soon be made comfortable. Miss Martha L. Gilbert, besides ac cepting a few more pupils desiring pri vate lessons In French, will form a class for instruction In that language. It is said on good authority that the property owners on North Beach, since the close of the season and the com pletion of the railroad from Seaside Into Astoria, are tumbling over each other to dispose of their property on the Washington shore In order to get in on Clatsop where the conveniences are so much greater. Col. John Adair, who left the city Saturday afternoon during the heavy storm, says that he witnessed a very strange phenomenon. Upon arrival at the Sunnymead station, he found the ground perfectly dry, and that there had been no storm or rain. He thought that probably Mr. Grover had a special grudge against the city. In the police court yesterday John Doe was fined 12 for being drnnk, and Fred Johnson forfeited V, for the same offlense. The two cases of Wong Tong and Wong Tung agalnstTal Wo Lin for assault and battery, have been set for trial Thursday. They want 'free and unlimited" coinage. They want to be allowed to take all their sliver to the mints and have It coined, no mat ter whether they work their men ten hours a day or twenty-four no matter whether they produce I'.'O.OOO an hour or 1200,000. Wage-earners, when any man talks to you of the "crime of 1S7.1," quofe these factsto him. Let him know that you are no' fools. Remember that un limited coinage of his sliver moans 50-cent dollars for you. Tell him that his talk of a "crime" is an Insult to your Intelligence. Tell him that you know the truth how twice already, by the strength of his lobby and the use of his wealth, he has compelled the government to help him to put an artificial price on his product a price which was paid by you and all the peo pie In taxes a price which came near to wrecking the nation's credit once, and which will never, with your h'lp, have a chance to do It again.
