A STRANG K CRAFT.
Yesterday evening the haTmaphro
dlte brig Salvador was towed Into the
harbor and her strange appearance
created no little comment. Captain
I'aeo. L. llobbs staon came ashore anal
explained to an Astorlan representa
tive that his peculiar ship was for
merly an Italian vessel, but Is now
sailing under the Nicaragua flag. Her
owner Is Mr. Felix Flpps. who Is presi
dent of a large sliver mining com
pany In Peru. The vessel Is running
in the exclusive Interest of the mine,
and has come to the Columbia for
mining timbers and lumber which will
be loaded at Kalama. She Is con
signed to fieorge Atkinson. Portland.
Captain llobbs said that his voy
age from San Francisco occupied Just
nineteen days and nine hours, and that
head winds were experienced all the
way. About eighty miles off the
mouth of the Columbia, west, one-half
north, he sighted a big four-muster
In tow of the whaleback Kvetvtt. The
ship seemed to have been abandoned,
and her foremast was gone. When
sighted she was only about a mile
illatant. Her inline could not he made
out, mid as the Everett ni.ule no niK
nuls, Captain llolil.x continued on hl
course without further investigation.
The Everett and her tow were headed
southuni'd. mid evidently hud come
from the Sound country. A number
of coasting vessels were also sighted,
mid the schooner Antelope whs seen
to put Into the Cmiullle harbor en Sun
day. FIFTY YiCAliS.
