It Is said that the fishermen operat ing the traps at Chinook bench, and who have been limited In their deliv eries tn the canneries during the past week, adopted the plan of taking out only the number of fish to which they were limited, leaving the rest In the traps, which have Increased dally In the number of fish caught. They thus keep on hand a large Quantity of live fish which can be used as soon as the canneries can take them. During the past few days w hile there has been such a large surplus of fish at the rannorles, a gentleman connect ed .with one of them Is authority for the statement that in his opinion a large cold storage house In Astoria woud be a paying investment. During such times as these large stocks of fresh fish might be carried on Ice for a day or two until they could be pack ed or otherwise disposed of Instead of being wasted. He says that sooner or later, with the Improved facilities of transportation, which the city will soon enjoy, the shipping of fresh salm on, sturgeon and halibut from this port will become an Important factor In Its commerce.
