The captain of the Jlrltl.h ship Loch
Inrdun, which arrived at Falmouth
from Iqulqul on June loth, made the
following report: On March 2lal ex
perienced heavy gal from N.VW, with
a niouiitalnou. cross sea, which swept
diks, wa.hlng everything moveable
overboard. On lh morning of Satur
day sighted a full-rigged ship, M south
40 west, distant two miles, under three
lower topsail., rolling heavily. Next
morning sighted her again, sea getting
very dangerous and breaking on -board
on both sides. During the height of a
t?rrlflc squall saw her lurch over and
suddenly disappear, and although I
went aloft was unable to see her. Sh
appeared to be about 1400 to t&OO tons
register, and had her bottom painted
red.
That any sort of a Job should go

be believed by the people, but such
are Ihe facts in the rase. The Job,

dent, who wants lo take the trouble
to aak for It. Is that of Mexican consul
for Ihe collection district of Puget
Sound, and the sooner someone acta on

Sun Francisco. In the meantlm the
vessel' was detained here under ex
pense, awaiting a reply to the letter
which accompanied the document.
Had there been a consul of the Amer
ican government here the vessel would
not have been delayed an hour, 'llc

The Ilrltlsh ship Hrenhlldo, 155 days

1250 tons, arrived In port Sunday with
a cargo of railroad Iron. She lay off
th bar all night, but did not get a tug
until the next morning. Off the river
Platte the Pamplero was encountered
which lost them several aalls and heavy
weather followed from then to the
Horn. From the Horn to the Col
umbia light winds prevailed. The ship
was built twenty-five years ago. Is Iron
bottom and cost (20 10s to the ton,
when ships now cost (10 to the ton. Sh
carries twenty-two men all told and la
loaded with steel rails. Off Cap Horn
Captain Baxter saya the barometer
dropped to M.7S, the lowest he ever
saw It. The Brenhllda In former year
was a colonial trader, and Is still one
of the smartest vessels afloat. Several
years ago she ran through a British
passenger steamer, without damage to
herself, but cutting the steamer In
two, losing seventy-flve lives. This Is
Capt. Baxter's first trip to this coast,
and his first voyage In thla vessel. One
seaman was taken off the vessel Sun
day and placed In the hospital, suffer
ing from a dangerous complaint
