wheat imports for the past three years.
In 1892 the United States shipped to
Germany 6,302,130 tons of wheat. The
next year this dropped to 8,149,282, and
in 1894 the imports were but 3,064,
tons. Meanwhile Argentine is said to
have gained what we lost of this trade
from that country Into Germany,
amounting In 1892 to but 661,697 tons,
had swelled fat 1893 to 1,613,961 tons, and
in 1894 to 8,196,190 tons. In 1893 Russia
and Germany engaged In a tariff war.
In consequence the imports of Russian
wheat Into Germany, which was 2,672,
9D1 tons In 1892, dropped suddenly In
1893 to 216,362 tons. But as showing
the promptness with which they recov.
ered their no small proportions when
flhe temporary restriction was removed,
the report shows that In 1894, peace
having been resored, the Russian wheat
Imports Into Germany reaahed 2,354,459
tons.
The Democratic party has always
