A Bplendid view is to be had of the city from an observatory in a park call ed Trad Gords Ferenlng. Its sloping red tiled roof Intermingled with the many green trees and Lake Rexen In the distance makes one almost think it is a city in Germany. Altogether a very pleasant time was spent in Llnkoping, eirfd I drove back to Bankeberg well satisfied with my day. And, now my ticket said I must hurry on to Bieklnge. A little descrip tion of the country through which I passed would probably not come amiss. Smafcund Is oo ruddered one of the poorest provinces in Sweden; the ground is very Stony and of a poor quality, so that very little of It is under cultiva tion. It abounds in beautiful lakes, and fir, pine and spruce trees meet the eye In every direction. Juniper bushes thrive very well here as does also a little everlasting flower called LJung, which is no doubt the same as English heather. It is such a sweet little flower of a heliotrope color. Large patches ot ground are entirely covered with It, and forms a picture at which one never tires of looking1. Even this mountains appear ot a reddish hue, due to this Ihtle flower which blossoms so prosper ously. I stopped over night In a little town called Safsjo, which ia situated on the highest point in Smoland, some 800 feet above the sea level. town Is A favorite sumtnw rwrt t.m awing fashion whlcdi sailors Wave. My vleit to the yards was an 'nterestlng one, and my only regret was that I had to skip so much, The afternoon was spent In seeing the surroundings of Kariskroma, namely, Lyctefty, Aiamm, amd Lossum; all of which are beautiful places. They all have old traditions concerning their churches, as for instance a Losum, Which re earns to be released. They say that In olden time a prince became be wildered In the large forest which then existed. He made a solemn vow to God Chat If released he would build a tem ple In which they would praise God for ever. At Aga,mm the church is built at the edge of a high bank, at the bottom of which flows the beautiful Lycheby riv. er; here It is said that for every year a large pile of earth tihlould crumble down into 'the river, until at last the ohurch would fall down Into the stteaim, 'and It 1s a known fact that the ground Jinks a little every year and from this the villagers have great falih In thl lltltle Sag-a.
