Following are some of the many food things said In that regard: At last Astoria, h&s the contract signed for the construction of a rall roiad from that city, to a transconti nental connection. This Is glorious news nut only for the Jong-waiting and long- suffering people of Astoria, but for the whole of Oregon's population.' The building of thl9 road will give a won derful stimulus to the development and prosperity of all the Oregon coast coun try, and It will open the way for other railroads. All (the big lines will have to get to salt water. This will prove a great Impetus to railroad development in Oregon end to 'Che growth Of the fflaJte. Polk County Observer. Astoria haa at last got a "cinch" on a railroad proposition. We hope that there will be no ohance to back out or it, and that the fondest hopes of Asto ria will be reached in the near fu ture. Smith is a dull engineer, identified with the Banner and Hammond people, and Mr. Stone is the man who hla3 been over the O. P. several times recently. The first examined surveys, maps, etc.. of the' general office, and the other took euoouuts of the earning and expense of the property. Mr. Stone admitted fiiankly that his people were looking over the property to see what could be done with it, and Said that he would be in Corvallis on the 21st, Which happens to be the day before the sale.
