Brown, daughter of T. J. Ames Brown,
of Princess Anne, Maryland, died from
an - operation performed for append!
cltis. - About ten days ago Miss Brown,
who had always been a very hearty
girl,- accidentally swallowed a. piece of
cbflwlng.gum,-. She thought nothing of
It, being assured by. .companions who
said they bid' often swallowed bits of
gum-' It was several day be 'ore she
became III,' and then' it was hot. thought
for an,lostant that the supposed harm
less gum was the cause. She rapidly
became -worse, ana physicians were
summoned from Baltimore and Phila
delphia for consultation with the town
doctors. A prominent surgeon perform'
ed an operation, and a small piece of
gum was found In the appendix. The
young woman never rallied, nnd died
last night.
