This amount of money Is tributary to Astoria, and yet even though It Is known that there are less salmon packed than ten years ago, there were absent from the cham ber of commerce meeting last night men who above all others should have been there to have given the recommenda. tlons of the committee on the salmon hatichery proposition their whole sup port. Take the salmon Industry away from Astoria and what would become of It? What would the, property of tho Flavels, the Shlveleys, the Taylors, the Meglers, and others be wortli? How much trade would Foard & Stokes and other prominent merchants have com pared with what they have now? Yet none of these gentlemen seemed to think enough of the object of the meeting to attend It. by thlrty-fivo voters. After due con sideration the licenses were granted. Communications from B. M. Grimes, regarding bridge across the Necanicum, referred to district attorney. Communication from Interstate Fair Association, referred to Chamber of Commerce. Resignation of N. C. Ililleary, super visor of Road District No. 7, accepted subject to examination of accounts. A. B. McMillan appointed to Mil vacancy. Petition of C. A. Bottom and others for bridge across Walker's creek; re. ferred to It. M. Wooden to ascertain best location, etc. Petition of Charles Miller, asking for $75 for bridge In District No. 12, referred to R. M. Wooden for best location. Ordered that M. Foard, retired treas urer, I instructed to turn over all monies and property In his jiossesslon belonging to the county, to B. L. Ward treasurer. Communication from J. W. Fisher, keeper of Walluskl bridge, allowed and salary fixed at $30 per month. Communication to Martin Foard from state treusurer was read. Ordered that the clerk write him to furnish an itemized statement of state's claim for delinquent taxes of Clataop county. Andrew Bue was appointed Janitor at a month. Ordered that the overseer of the poor be Instructed to make a report in regard to the condition of persons receiving aid from ttie county and that tho allowances be continued as In the past. Wooden being the only member of the old board present, called the court to order and C. J, Tmichurd, county clerk, read the oath of olllce which' had been filed, and called Judge J. II. P. Gray to the chair to preside. Uion taking his sent Judge Gray culled for the oath of Commissioner Peterson, which was read, and Mr. Pe terson took his seat In the board. The bonds of F. I. Dunbar, county clerk, J, W. Hare, sheriff, C. 8. Gundor son, recorder, B. L. Ward, treasurer, R. Harry, surveyor, Win. Pohl, coroner, J, Abercromble, were read, approved, and filed.
