The commencement exercises of the University of Oregon took place Thurs day, June 21, at Eugene. A large and appreciative audience listened to the carefully prepared and interesting ora tions. The subjects were as follows: "Every Man to Accomplish the Actual Must Have an Ideal, by P. J. Brattaln and Miss Emma Wold. "Shall the Study of the Classics bp Secondary to tho Study of Sclence,", by Miss Mary Collier. "Early Pioneers of Oregon and Their Legacy to the State," by Miss Carrie Friendly and George F. Welch. "William the Rilent a Conqueror in tho Loftiest Sense," by Irving M. Glen. "Shall Politics be Taught in the Schools of this Nation," by Miss Melissa Hill and Qeo. Jones. The valedictory was delivered in jv most touching manner by Miss Powell of Astoria. Miss Powell Is the first young lady who has obtained the vale dictory, since it has been an honor secured only by the highest class stand ing throughout the entire course of study. Mr. Geo.
