BEVERAGES.
How little people wtio have grown up
In Astoria appreciate the beauties or
nature In this Immediate vicinity. A
visit to any of the heighta about the
city, and a glance up( and down the
lver Hnd bay, with its shady banks,
thrills and Inspires the stranger, while
old settlers, to whom the scenery is
famllar, fall to see and appreciate Its
beauties. They will never realize the
true grandeur of the bluffs, the river
and bay unless they should some day
move away from the city, which sits
(is a gem In the midst of some of na
ture's grandest achievements. Then,
when Jb Is too late, their hearts will
yearn for the grand old scenes at the
mouth of the great Columbia.
CHANGE ALL AROUND.
On and after next Monday you won't
have to pay as much for a money order
at the postolllce as you did not that
Mr. Wise Is going to run a baigain
counter of money orders, but besAUSe
hat Is the new law. You must also
tuke money orders or nothing, as no
more postal notes will be Issued, the
department at headquarters having de
cided that these notes are no good, all
f whloh the public and the postmasters
could have told them long ago. It takes
about five years for the big guns In
Washington to come to a conclusion on
such Ideas as postal notes, but the post
masters of first and second-class olhces
reach a correct verdict In six months.
ONLY THE PUREST Wines nnd
