And It came to lnss-four-blt piece. -the counterfeit The postmaster of Seaside was In the city ye.Merday. There was no business In the record, er's court yesterday. The muHic halls on Concomly street were well patronized luBt night. Healed bids are solicited for plastering the rooms over the Astorlan office. The most certain thing about an office hunting bee Is Its sting the morning af ter the election. The three-masted schooner James A. n-irilelil lumber laden, came up from below hist night. Coroner Pohl was out yesterday In a new plum-colored Biilt, which made hlin look like a statesman. The Astoria Packing Company has built a new scow for Its llsliermen to UBe at Wood Island Slough. Merchants report a good Saturday trade from the numerous country peo ple who were In town shopping. Sofus Jensen Is now out In the coiin- ty interviewing the wary voter. It la stated that a pall of water con tnlnlng n, handful of hay, If placed In a room where there has been smoking, will absorb all odor of the tobacco. Those neat forget-me-not bouquet worn by many fortunate fcentlemen on our streets yesterday were traced bad. to the deft fingers of Harry llamblet, The steamer State of Calif rnln ar rived froml San Francisco yesterday 'morning with a large amount of freight for this port and a good through pas senger list. i The man without enemies Is the man without energy. The man who natural ly grins tils way through the world may never do anybody any harm, but he set dom does anybody any good. The motor will commence leaving at the foot of Main street at 1 o'clock to day, and make trips regularly once every hour afterwards up to 5 o'clock, for the ball grounds und gardens. The lightning and thunder Friday night, followed by a. cool day yesterday, furnished a new topic of conversation for the candidates last nlghU This Is altogether one of the chilliest springs the Democratic party has experienced for some years. Olsen has had a new bright red settee placed In front of bis cigar store, and the first person to slump Into It was Ike Bergman. He -soon left, as if seemed that nine out of ten who passed Id front of him were Republicans, and they made him uncomfortable. What with wain and rumors of wars, strife between labor and capital, anar chists with their dynamite and religi ous difference of opinion, the entire World seems to be enduring a state of fermentation, and no man can tell when the scum will rise to the surface? The little five-year-old son of Harry Hcndrlekson, of Con I Creek, Wash., had his hip badly fractured and dislocated by a heavy door fulling on him. He was brought to Astoria and after Dr. O. U. Kstes had reduced the disloca tion and fracture the little fellow rested easier and will come out of It all right. C. R. K. P. U. NOTICE.
