Last year at this time the Gas Com pany was running two furnaces, with eight retorts, which required three men to attend them. This year, on account of the slack times, only five reports are being used, and but two men are on the pay rolls at the factory. - It is not generally known that the Pacific Canning Company, when run ning, used one-half the gas manufac tured by the Gas Company. Their large gas bills are caused by using gas' to heat the soldering iron The Incandescent lights have put quite a hole In the Gas Company's' receipts. but they have a good franchise, which will be worth money as the city grows larger.
