THE DAILY ASTOlilAN, ASTORIA, SUNDAY M0RN1XO,: JANUARY 7, 1893. FOR. THE COLUMBIA. A Monster Ship Now on the AVny " t This Tort. Anot ht-r bit? four-nuislcr 1b on the wa in tlilH port. She Ih thrs Norweirln Blilp Prince Robert, and ulie reglsu-1 2C54 tons. In size Bho la 200 tons larger than the Brumalla, which recently ar rlvod, and only 100 tons smaller than the Mowhan, which was here last sea son. The Prince Robert is a new vub sel. and Is making her maiden voyage She left Barry June 30 for Rio, arrived August 10, and sailed October 20 for Taltal and San Francisco. At the lat ter place she will receive orders for Portland. The ship Is consigned Meyer. Wilson & Co., and will load grain for Europe. Captain Hansen is the commander of the vessel. The Lord Shaftsbury, which recently arrived in ballast at Tacoma from Val paraiso, it is said has been ordered to Portland to take on wheat. The British ship Thistle, a 2200 ton vessel, Just ar rived at San Francisco from Swansea, was chartered for wheat loading prior to arrival, with the option of Portland and Tacoma In addition to San Francis co. Her rate from San Francisco is 2.1s 0 d, from Tacoma 31s 3 d, and from Portland, 32s d. THE RIGHT SPIRIT. ' Police Commissioner Kopp was the first property owner to come to time with his subscription of water-front property for the railroad subsidy. Mr. Kopp yesterday gave one-third of his 150 feet, and accompanying the deed was a deed to the right of way through ills remaining property. This excelle".. example, it Is believed, will be followed by a goodly proportion of the other property owners. QUAINT SAYINGS. Spiritual dyspepsia is harder to cure than the other kind. If some of our heads were not so big our hearts would grow faster. Whenever faith proys it holds oui both hands to receive the answer. When people are hired to be good they will stop as soon as the pay stops. A rose measured by its fragrance makes a cabbage head look little. There are people who will not trust the Lord till they lose everything else When you want a friend, don't choose a man whose children are afraid of him. A preacher who has a praying church behind him Is a hard man to discourage: There are some people in the church who feel injured when the devil gett a backset. Every time the devil makes a hypo crite he has to admit that nothing payt so well as being good. Many people who pray for a doeper work of grace, do not want it to com deep enough to reach the pocket. Itam's Horn. SUMMONS.
