The "West Coast Review" Is author
ity for the statement that the success
of the Drysdale and Wadham's salmon
canneries, near Blaine, this season, is
wild to have had the effect of attract
ing the attention of many Fraser river
LMnnerymen to that point, where all
the salmon must pass in making their
way into the stream. The result will
probably be that two or more canneries
it least will be removed there before
the opening of another season, and
sveutually the majority of Fraser liver
canneries will be massed at or ner
Point Robert's. It Is paid that liic
Drysdale cannery cleared $25,000 this
year, and the two institutions packed
about 75,000 cases. Though at t.'.ie pres
ent time Pugtt Sound is not reckoned
in computing the salmon output for
the season, this will soon be changed,
..he pack this season bavin;; passed the
100,000 mark, and with the two addi
tions at the far north, with possibly
one or two at other points, next, year
will begin to show results of consldeia-
ble magnitude.

SHIPS OF THE FUTURE.
Sir Nathaniel Barnaby, the late chief
constructor of the British .navy, has
given the weight of his high reputation
fo the Dosslbilily of conducting a sh
for Atlantic navigation, which will be
1000 feet long and 300 feet broat, with
mcliva of 0.000 horse power and an
ocean speed of 15 knots. This ship he
described as a steel Island, which whl
be incapable of entering any dock, at
rny rate as at present constructed,
having several engines, working tide
ly side. He thinks that a draught of
20 feet of water need never be ex
ceeded. "I do firmly believe," said Sir
Nathaniel, "that we shall get the mas
tery over the seas, and that we shall
live more happily In a marine residence
capable of steaming 15 knots an hour,
than we can ever live in a seaside
town."
