George Smith was up in the police
court yesterday for assaulting Albert
Thomson. The evidence showed that
Smith had struck the prosecutor, but
only after the latter had squared oft to
hit him. Smith also stated that Thonv
son had offered not to prosecute him for
a $5 consideration. Judge Osburn dis
missed the case and told Thomson that
the court was not to be made use of

decks. Everything below had been up
set but was righted. Fortunately for
the safety of all there was a small dory
compass aboard, which seal hunters
use when they go out in their boats,
and with this the Volunteer was steer
ed Into Seattle after she had been put
In as good shape as possible.

but three (Messrs. A. R. Cyrus, C. W.

judge and proceeded to business. Out
side the members of the convention

Councilman E. C. Lewis opened the
meeting, called it to order, and asked
for the election of a chairman and
secretary of the proceedings.' '
On motion of Alex. Gilbert, Mr. Lewis
was appointed chairman, and Mr. Jeff
Crandell, secretary.
