The United States supreme court began its October term today, all the Justices being on tha bench. Among the distinguished people present was the attorney gen eral of Great Britain, Sir Richard Web ster. Chief Justice Fuller announced that owing to the death of Justice Blatchford all business set for today would go over until tomorrow, and the court adjourned to enable the members to pay their respects to the president of the United States in a body. ."..'murdered on the steps. San Francisco, Oct. 9. In Felix Ad-lei-'s. free kindergarten shortly after 8 o'clock this morning Mrs. Sarah Col lins was horribly gashed with a knife and an hour later expired. Mrs. Col lins was Janltress of the building When the teachers arrived this morn ing the unfortunate woman was found dying on the school steps. Near by vaa a knife with which the tragciy was committed. Her husband, ratrlek Collins, was arrested tonight. KILLED" BY A BILLIARD CUE. Addlngton, owner of a shingle mill, quarrelled with Swan Peterson while playing billiards anJ struck him over the head with a cue. Peterson will die-. Addlngton Is a southerner of good education, 41 years old rncl very popular about Edison and Mount Vernon, where he lived several years. Ho was arrested and will be taken to Mount Vernon jail. GAVE HIMSELF UP. f:enttl Oct. 9. Colin E. Daughdrlll, the young railroad man who killed Armstrong J. Stewart, yard master of the Hast Tennessee, Virginia and Geor gia railroad at Gadsden, Ala., In March, 1S92, gave himself up to Sheriff Mool try on Saturday afternoon, having been a fugitive two and a half years. He claims that he shot Stewart In self-defense, and that he now wants to go back to stand trial. A CYCLONE AT INDEPENDENCE. Independence, Or., Oct. 9. The con tinued rains have caused the Willam ette river to rise rapidly since last Fri day, and it la now fifteen feet above low water mark. Today about noon during a rel.ipse of the sun, this town and Monmouth were visited by a small cyclone. Its base was apparently about fifteen feet wide. It unroored wood sheds, overturned outhouses, tore up young trees and tore down fences. PROBABLY A WHOLESALE STRIKE Providence. R. I.. Oct. 9,-Slx thous and employes of the woolen mills at Olneyvllle, a suburb of this city, in augurated a strike IhlH morning. The Indications are that it will extend to all the woolen manufacturing establish ments In this state, and there Is talk of the cotton workers Joining the strike. The strike Is against a reduction of wages poBted this morning. ALL DROWNED. peer Park, Mich., Oct. 9. A wrecked fishing boat has been picked up by the Muskalonge life saving crew. It was found to be a boat which left While Pith Point on October 8th with eight persons on board Including Captain W. If. Curter, his wife, one child and live h, union.
