J. P. Austin returned from Portland
yesterday. He was bound over in two
Burities of $250 each to appear before
the grand jury and to answer to the
charge laid against hint
Rev. L. Walby leaves here for his
new charge in Spokane, some time this
week. Rev. H.- O. Nordvlg of Stough
ton, Wisconsin, has been appointed by
the conference to take his place. He
will be here on the 1st of October.

The old Ng Lung cutting scrape casa
comes up today in the circuit court,
and both the Bow Lung Tong and Che
Kong Tong societies are arming for
the legal fray. Chu Shet, the unfortu
nate who was nearly killed, is prose
cuting, assisted by his friends of the
Che Kong Tong, who will attempt to
prove that Ng Lung is the. executioner
appointed by the rival society to pick
quarrels with and butcher its ene
mies. .

Mr. E. R. Hawes, of this city, yes
terday , received the "Transcript" of
Portland,' Maine which contains the
Item that "last Thursday 205 members
of the Robbins family of that state
met in their annual re-union at the
homestead of his brother, H. A.
Hawes, in Union, Knox county. The
Robbins family, of which Mr. Hawes
is a member, numbers over 300 de
scendants, and is claimed to be the
largest family in the state. The re
union meeting was called to. order by
Willard Robbins, of Union, 93 years
old, and hale and hearty as a young
man. He was elected president of the
clan for the ensuing year.

The British ship City of York, 1S14
tons, an old favorite here, arrived in
port yesterday morning in ballast, 39
days from Callao. It .will be remem
bered that when she left here last year
for Liverpool sho raced home against
the Metropolis. The race was an ex
citing one, each vessel sighting . and
passing the other more than once dur
ing the voyage. Victory, however, rest
ed with the Metropolis. The City of
York has most of her old crew with
her. Several of them are members
of the Astoria Football Club, and they
are delighted to get back again and
to have the opportunity of trying a
few falls and kicks at Smith's Point
once more. A couple of middies were
proudly exhibiting their membership
tickets in town yesterday. . On the back
of them are Inscribed the names of
every port the vessel has called at
since she left this city.
