Bert Hibbs and Joe Foster, were arrested yesterday for making a disturbance In front of the Methodist church on Wednesday night and in terrupting a pre.yer. meeting inprog- less there. Judge Osburn gave them a paternal lecture and let them go, promising dire conse quences for a repetition of the offense. The police judge managed to scare the toys pretty effectively, but he erred on the side of leniency a little. He broke away from two men who were watching him and Jumped into the river. After swimming about for several minutes he returned to the house, ordered his wife and family out and locked the doors on everybody. Sheriff Smith was notified and at once went out there, arresting his man after a great deal or trouoie. He was brought to Astoria on the Dwyer and lodged in the county Jail till the Telephone left, when, in com Dany with two other unfortunates he was taken up to Salem by Deputy Sheriffs Dell Mooer and Warren. The Doctor, who visited the "As torlan" office soon after his arrival, expressed his entire satisfaction with his new charge ,and his strong con viction that he would succeed in the Astoria field, and bring Increased pros perity and usefulness to the church. His conversation and magnetism fully bear out the reports that have pre ceded him here, and there Is no doubt that Mr. Landen's successor will make his presence felt in this city. He will meet the official board of the church tomorrow night and at once proceed with the routine work of his parish. Mrs. Bushong Is a lady who has won the name of being one of the finest j oung people's leaders in the state, and she will help her husband a great deal In many ways.
