The Secretary of the TreaHury might
with profit have changed his phrase
ology a little when ho said "there hai
been too much talking about the finan
cial affair of the country. "If bu had
said there had been too much waver
ing It would have been better- What
he said was equivalent to what Van-dt-rbllt
once said about the people. Mr.
Carlisle should remember that the coun
try Is governed by the people, and un
til there Is a change the aforesaid pe"
pie will discuss financial and other
questions at their own sweet will.
Secretary Carlisle has charged his
view somewhat since he said that
"the conspiracy which teems to have
been formed here and In "Diropc to
destroy by legislation from three
sevenths to one-half of the metallic
money of the world, the most gigan
tic crime of this or any other age.','
Mr. Carlisle now realizes that the con
rplracy consists in the excessive pro
duction of the white metal. Gold is
the world's standard, and If we depart
from It, the expense of the departure
falls upon us.
The proud and unsustalned boast of
certain Southern papers, like the At
lanta Constitution, that in the South
only does pure and unadulterated Am
ericanism dwell, is rebuked by the At
lanta Chronicle In the most naive and
innocent way, when it declares, as It
did a few days ago, that the Southern
people should show more Interest in
the national holiday end not leave Its
celebration to the "negro militia-"
There is somo democratic dissatis
faction with "ExrCzaif' Reed because
he won't toll the democrats what he

ial "Tom." The democrats got them
selves Into the hole, und they feel mow

Rented in the French Chamber of Don

representatives demands that the gov
ernment should bo ImiHw.hed for or-
rterlng the troops to ehargo upon the
people. The Idea Is that when the
jiople desire to destroy n city they
Miould not be meddled with.
The Richmond, Vn., Dispatch says
aptly: "Conlldciii-e I as necessary us
solvency." And confidence was ihakvn
by the democratic victory, when Uw
country realized after a calm nutve
that tho democracy hud no undoistoiM
and settled business principles.
The understanding n tho South that
the Democratic President does not fa
vor tho freo coinage of sliver and 50
per cent, repudiation, precipitates n
discussion of the money question on Its
merit, land the debate h? waxing
warm.

J. N. Harris, 3 Fulton Market. New

"I have-been using Brfindreth's pills
for the lost fifteen years. There is
nothing equal to them as Blood Puri

to state how remarkably they cure
rheumatism, and how easily; I was af

could not walk, and at night 1 suffered
fearfully; I tried I5alams, Sarsaparlllas

27 Difference
The "Royal" the Strongest and
Purest Baking Powder.
Whether any other baking powder is equal to
"Royal," let the official reports decide. When
the different powders were purchased on the open
market and examined by Prof. Chandler, of the
New-York Board of Health, the result showed that
Royal Baking Powder contained twenty-seven
per cent, greater strength than any other brand.
When compared in money value, this difference
would be as follows :
If one pound of Royal Baking Powder sells
for 50 cents,
One pound of no other powder is worth over
36 cents.
If another baking powder is forced upon you
by the grocer in place of the Royal, see that you
arc eliarged the correspondingly lower price.
