As a game park thl.': country could not be surpasoed, broken as it is by high and rugged neiuiilalns, and timbered bo thickly that only tho wild animals that Inhabit Its solitude are able to find their way through the der.se growth. The clear mountain streams that How down ev ery canyon are filled with trout, and In several of the larger waterways salmon can be found during the run ning season. It Is said by hunters who have been over the more uccess alilj part of the mountains several miles back from the coast, that grouse and pigeon shooting is excellent. Un less something Is dono toward the pro tection of tho remudnlng bands of elk, In this region, only a few years will elapse before that class of game will be on hard to find as are the buffalo on the pliulns of Wyoming. Work on the county road between Seaside mid Klk creek Is progressing nicely. 1'hilo lObermnn, with a force of men, has been busy for the past month removing fallen trees, filling up mud holes, and otherwise repairing the damage done by the winter storms. The Elk creek house, owned by II. F. h. Logan, will probably be ready for the usual summer travel by the first of July. Stages will run as usual this Hummer, and from present Indica tions Elk creek will be visited by a large crowd of seasklers during the coming season. Tho Austin house stage will commence running about the first of July. Among those who will spend the summer on the beach are, Clark Carno ban and family, J. N. Orlffln and fam ily, Mrs. Clayton and daughter, L. Mansur and family, Ben Sabine and family, S. D. Adair and family, K Jay Smith and family, Harry Bell, B. F. Astbury, J. J. Kern and Robert Norrls. Messrs. Lewis and Flanders, who are having a house erected at Seal Rock, will live there during the summer months. For the past three weeks the heavy southwest winds have been bringing in millions of Jelly fish, commonly known as Portugese men-of-war. The beach, O'otn False TSUlamook to the Seal Rocks, Is thickly strewn with those peculiar- fish, a.nd It may be dmogined that tho smell is not altogether pleas ant during the hot days, which fortu nately in this respect, have been but few in number. A large steamer with two smoke- flocks was sighted off the beach on Sunday Inst. She was headed north and nuke near in shore, something un common for this class of vessels. The Klinoro and Truckeo passed here on Tuesday last, turned south, and so near in that the people on board could be caHlly distinguished with the naked eye. A number of the families now resid ing at the beach will celebrate the Fourth with u display of fireworks from the rocks that abound along the coast. ALONG THE WHARVES. THOUGHT TRANSFERENCE. We hear In these days a vast deal about "thought transference," "tele oathv." and similar phenomena. I rec ommed thoe who are always eager to llud a supernatural or occult explona tlon for such phenomena, to witness tho performance of the French lady and gentleman now appearing at the Egyptian haJl. A list of some hun dreds of names of celebrities 13 distrib uted among the audience. Tho Frenchman Is then blindfolded and stands before an easel. The lady walks among her audience. They whis per in her ear the name of any person on the list. She makes a pass at her colleague on the stuge, and he instantly sketches a portrait of the person named. Numerous variations of this trick are performed. The lady is then blindfolded, and names instantly any article shown by the audience to the man, including even the numbers of railway tickets, and the dates of coins and medals. No words are spoken by the performers; there is no communication except the hocuspocus of making a pass. It Is admitted that this is done by a scien tific system. What room, is there left fop the occult? I saw these people do this one even ing. A man told me it was done by ventriloquism, each Informing the oth er by a "ventriloqulstlc" whisper. London Truth, A USEFUL NEWSPAPER. Mr. O. A. Salu. describes a curious paper formerly published In the Dec can. It was lithographed every morn ing on a square of white' cotton cloth. After having perused it the subscrib ers employed it as a pocket handker chief. Then they sent it to the local washerwoman, who returned It, a clean square of white cotton, to the publisher, who lithographed and issued the same sheet again and again ADMINISTRATRIX NOTICE.
