year ending June 9, 1303:

This school Includes all grades, from
the chart class to the eighth grade,
but all have worked In harmony to the
expressed (satisfaction of the patronB
and of the directors, and a marked ad
vancement Is noticeable In all the
classes. Mrs. Williams has ably flsHlnt
ed In teaching all through the term.
Many of the parents have shown their
appreciation by their frequent visits
and wordd of encouragement.
The attendance and punctually have
been remarkable, the pupils themselves
being very eament In these respects.
Most of tho tardiness ha been by the
members of two or three families.
Florence Goddard, Allle Goddard, Ar
thur Agren, Tlllle Williams, and George
Olson are placed on the roll of honor
for being present every day for the
whole ten months, while Annie Haaven,
Ella A. Nelson, and Tina Peterson were
neither absent nor tardy while mem
bers of the school. Several others were
absent only a few days on account of
sickness.
We have had several public literary
entertainments which were all well at
tended, the closing one on Friday be
ing among the best. But the final clos
ing exercise was a Demorest medal
contest by members of the school, as

The steamer Truckee leaves

Francisco for this port today.
The steamer Ocean Wave came down
from Portland yesterday .afternoon
and crossed to Ilwoco.
The British hlp Cralgorne, hence
for Queenstown for orders, was spoken
In latitude 19 north, longitude 42 west
on the 13th of May.
Tho Bhlp Reaper received lumber and.
salmon yesterday.
The Western Belle will take a dock
load of small sixirs and lumber to
New York. A number of the former
were received on board yesterday.
Tho barge load of ore from Port

Works, arrived In port yesterday, hav
ng been towed to the bar by the
tug Mogul, and then taken In charge
by tho Wallowa There are 700 tons

courts In prosecuting offenders. The
act of February 22, 1893, creating the
office of game and fish protector and
defining his powers and duties, gives
him two methods of procedure. Sec

offenders in the district court In which
