Following are the real estate trans fers as reported for the Astorlan by the Astoria Abstract, Title and Trust Company: Astoria, Oregon, May 27, 1893. United States to A.H. Parks does not reflect truly, or else there are a number of the gentler sex singularly blind to the charms of that eccentric individual. The welcome extended to him here on the occasion of his last visit not having been as cordial as the recipient thought should have been the case, he determined to seek pastures new, and accordingly betook himself to the north shore. Reaching J?ort canby he occupied his time in writing doggerel of the rankest descrip tion, and having thus endeavored to Immortalize himself he proceeded to select two commissioned officers as victims to whom to dedicate the results of the attack of the afflatus divine, For this offense the boys put him In the guard house, and on his release next morning he hied himself back to Ilwaco and made preparations to de liver a lecture on his pet subject "mat rimony," on which he professed to be an authority. A hall was engaged, the affair well advertised, and th pros pects for success were good. But some thing unexpected happened. In the early part of the forenoon the "rever end" gentleman, or reverend humbug, was introduced to a comely widow whose name was) given as "Mrs. Lucy Johnson." "Saddle-Bags" was smitten badly so, and didn't hide his emotion, His head was In a greater whirl than ever during the succeeding three hours. Later he received a note signed "Lucy Johnson," in which the writer professed to have succumbed to Mr. Parks' charms of mind and person. He became much exercised when he read this, and without hesitation determined to post pone the lecture, and keep an appoint ment with the adorable "Lucy" which was asked for at 8:30 that evening (the lecture having been Set for 8), near the school house. Eight o'clock arrived, but no lecturer was to be found and singularly enough there was no one near the hall. But there were a great many people concealed near the school house, and one form visible In Its shade. Pretty soon a gaunt figure appeared and slowly and quietly ap proached the side of the supposed lady of his adoration. "Lucy, my life, my love," the gaunt one whispered; "come to the arms of your affinity." The widow was a little skittish and would not come, but Saddle-bags drew nearer and stretching out a pair of arms that looked like the tentacles of a crab, clasped the form of his "Inamorata,' who proved to be a muscular specimen of masculine humanity. Mr. Parks had barely touched the supposed fair one than he was greeted with a loud cho- rus of laughter from numerous throats, and amid a shower of Buch missiles as ripe eggs, over-ripe oranges, etc., he headed toward town at a rate that surprised the Ilwaco men. Fear, or shame, or something, lent him wings, and the long, giraffe-like limbs moved as they hadn't done before in many moons. He was chased all through town and made his escape as soon as possible, and upon his return to Astoria looked as If he had a bad attack of spavin. WANTED. rilRL FOR GENERAL IIOUSKWOKK. CHECK THE FIRST APPROACH Of rheumatism, and further attacks may be escaped, if proper precautions ugainst exposure are taken, and there be no hereditary predisposition. Un fortunately, people who ultimately be come chronic sufferers, too often neg lect the trilling twinges and premoni tory stiffness which herald the advent of this agonizing malady. Among the diseases for which Hostetters Stomach Bitters has been found efficacious this is one, and the medicine being perfect ly safe, it Is certainly to be preferred to drugs uped for its cure, which are frequently useless, and nothing more or less than poisonous. The substitu tion of this pleasant and pure blood depurent for medicines Inimical to life In a slight overdose, is a measure which may fitly be urged upon persons who desire to obtain relief safely, or who have failed to obtain It from the numerous pseudo remedies for this dis ease in the market.
